You were that moment in my life where who I used to be would never compare to who I became. In that moment I saw your face and my heart was forever transformed. My heart broke for you as you lay in the hospital for weeks, my heart stopping every time an alarm would ring. Peeking through barriers just wanting to hold your hand. When we finally brought you home my body was in tune with every sound you made, going from REM sleep to by your side at the smallest sounds you would make.
I remember your first roll, your first crawl and your first steps. When coos turned to babble and eventually formed words. Listening to you talk about durdles (turtles) and ghostses (ghosts) and wanting to be locked in boxes to surprise me when I got home. Your smile is infectious and the way you show love is priceless. You have your daddies heart so let me share with you what my 25 years have taught me. Love, my son, love with all your heart and never let anyone rob you of that gift. To love is to experience life to its fullest and in turn share that life with others. There will be those that try and hurt you and who will take advantage of that gift but no matter how hard those people my try tarnish your gift, know that true love is greater.
Be honest all of the time my son, but find the good in your world instead of focusing on the bad. If you look for the negative you will always find it, but if you focus on the positive you can change the world. See with your eyes and your heart and show compassion to those you are able to help. Carry those who are weak and speak peace to those in turmoil.
Find strength my son, in who you are and who you choose to become. The world is an amazing place and you can do amazing things if you set yourself to the task. Do not lose sight of your humanity in exchange for success, because in the end what good is it to have an empire but nobody left to share it with. Find friends who bring the best out in you and befriend those in need that show up in your path. Find someone who compliments your strengths and offsets your weaknesses and who you can love in their best moments and in their worst.
I cannot guard you from the hurt that comes with life, cutting words, betrayal, and love lost but use those moments to grow stronger and find the lesson in every situation. Never forget that as long as I breathe I will be there for you, to talk to, to cry with, to spend time with. We may end up disagreeing on certain subjects in life but know that if you love with all your heart we will always have that in common.
Judah, you are 1/3 of my life force and you are an inspiration to me every day. Never lose your smile, don’t let the light in your eyes fade, and never forget how much I love you my son. Happy Birthday and may your path be filled with amazing things no matter what direction it takes you in.
